About the Program

The Veteran Homelessness Program supports veterans experiencing various levels of homelessness. This new initiative at LCC will run until March 2028 and is funded by the Lakehead Social Planning Council, the community entity overseeing the Veterans Homelessness Program in Thunder Bay.

The program includes a part-time Veteran Service Navigator who supports veterans living in the District of Thunder Bay.

The Service Navigator helps participants confirm their eligibility for Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) services, provides guidance on program directives, and coordinates a range of supports to promote self-sufficiency and prevent homelessness.

Supports include:

  • Connecting to Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) benefits and services
  • Navigating community programs and support systems
  • Providing information and referrals to local resources
  • Strengthening personal and natural support networks
  • Advocacy to help remove barriers
  • Building partnerships to expand opportunities for veterans
  • Raising awareness about veterans’ needs within the community

The program is committed to helping veterans achieve stable housing, improved well-being, and long-term independence.
